Community Service

HPHA is an approved organization for supervising court-ordered community service through the Bucks and Montgomery County ARD Programs, Youth Aid Panel and local courts in Hatboro, Horsham, Upper Dublin and other courts in Bucks and Montco. Work must be pre-approved through the District Attorney’s Office, Youth Aid Panel or local court. If you have any questions, please contact us at 267-967-5389 or through a private message on Facebook.

Individual Volunteers

HPHA can also help with other community service requirements for scouting, National Honor Society school hours, among others. Participants can help around the farm, work on one of our projects, or suggest a project that you would like to do. We always have work to do, and if you have a specific interest such as gardening, restoration, bees, genealogy, research, organizing events, we would love to have you. We have had student and scout volunteers build fences, transcribe historic documents, work with our librarian, and do historical research.

Drug Court Program

Individuals in the Drug Court program are given a number of hours of community service that must be performed by some deadline with a participating non-profit organization.

HPHA holds community service days, Tuesdays and Saturdays, with some other days, depending on special circumstances, that are open to individuals placed in the Community Service program.

We always have plenty of things we can use some help!

Youth Aid Panel

The Youth Aid Panel is a restorative justice program of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. It provides a second chance for non-violent juvenile offenders. The program aims to encourage juveniles to be responsible for their actions, to restore them to the community, and to prevent future offenses and resultant harm to individuals and the community.

Individuals will typically be assigned by the Youth Aid Panel to work at a specific location. If you have been assigned to HPHA or if you would like to request an assignment here please contact us.

FAQs and Rules

What is HPHA?

The Horsham Preservation and Historical Association is a 501(c)3 Community Benefit Organization dedicated to identifying, studying, preserving and protecting the historical heritage, buildings and artifacts of our area. We have a number of active projects (see the projects tab on the menu) but most of our volunteers help us with the restoration and maintenance of the Penrose-Strawbridge Farm. This is also where our office is located.

Where is the Penrose Strawbridge Farm?

The Penrose Strawbridge Farm is located at 900 Governor Road in Horsham right next to Graeme Park. Your best bet is to use the entrance to Graeme Park which is directly across Township Line Road from the old Happy Tymes. Governor Road is one of the oldest roads in Horsham (1721) and is still a dirt road. Take a left when you get to the end of the Graeme Park driveway and come up to the big farmhouse on the right. Check the directions (GPS doesn’t always know where we are).

Do I need to be pre-approved or can I just show up?

Individuals are either assigned to HPHA by ARD or in some cases are instructed to locate a participating nonprofit where they can complete their service. In either case, you must contact us to verify eligibility and to schedule your time. YOU CANNOT JUST SHOW UP.

You should have a time sheet from the program which needs to be presented to HPHA before starting.

How do I get assigned to HPHA by a Youth Aid Program?

You must be assigned by the Youth Aid Panel to work here. Participants must first be interviewed and accepted by HPHA. Youth must be accompanied to this interview by a parent or a guardian. If we agree to have you work with us we will discuss the type of work that you will do and set a schedule which will be agreed to by both your parent/guardian and you.

What type of work will I be doing?

We have a wide variety of tasks that we assign based on your ability and skills such as cutting grass, gardening, and trades work like carpentry, masonry, etc. We also have some clerical tasks or more involved projects such as working with our archives depending on ability and interest.

What should I bring and wear?

  • Lunch/Snack/Drink – No food runs during your scheduled time
  • Wear clothes appropriate for outdoor work and suitable for the weather
  • Sunscreen

When can I do my service?

HPHA holds community service days on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and occasionally some other days depending on special circumstances of individuals placed in the Community Service program. If you have 12 hours of community service to complete, you can finish them with a week or two.

How do I start?

If you have been assigned and/or approved to do your hours here then you can usually start the following Tuesday or Saturday, but you must schedule this and have your time sheet. Contact us on Facebook or call 267-967-5389 to get started
