Horsham Preservation and Historical Association

HPHA is extremely sad to report the passing of our dear friend Peter Choate.

See more below.

The Horsham Preservation & Historical Association (HPHA) is is a community benefit organization based in Horsham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA dedicated to identifying, studying, preserving and protecting the historical heritage, buildings and artifacts of our area.

Located in southeastern PA, just north of Philadelphia, Horsham is in an area rich in history going back to our colonial period. The Sir William Keith House/Graeme Park (National Historic Site), the Horsham Friends Meeting House (National Historic Site), the c 1735 Kenderdine Mill, and, the c1721 Penrose-Strawbridge House (currently under restoration by HPHA) are only some of our many historical treasures.

Peter Choate

We are extremely sad to report the passing of our dear friend, and the cofounder and long-time leader of our organization, Peter Choate.  Pete passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 83.  He is shown below in March, 2016 with his wife Margaret Choate at the Penrose-Strawbridge House.  Both Pete and Margaret committed the later parts of their lives to our group, preserving the history of Horsham Township, the restoration of the Penrose-Strawbridge House and service to our community.

Business in Horsham

There’s Always Something Going on at HPHA

We don’t just preserve history, we provide opportunities to build a community.

We have published a pictorial “History of Horsham” book that is available for sale.

The Penrose Strawbridge House has served as the set for several recent films, including Apparition, a psychological thriller, Undaunted, which was selected to compete in the Los Angeles indie Short Fest, and another film that was shot in 2022 and is in post-production.

Check out some of our projects and learn how you can support HPHA.
